RIM Makes BlackBerry Flip

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion recently revealed its plan of launching a flip version of its wireless handheld device, called the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220.

Like the BlackBerry Pearl, the Flip has a SureType QWERTY keyboard for composing messages, and a trackball for navigation. The handset has integrated access with the BlackBerry wireless services for push corporate e-mail, and it also works with Microsoft Exchange, IMB Lotus, Novell GroupWise, and Web-based e-mails.

The Flip 8220 integrates a 240x320 pixel color screen on the inside and an additional 128x160 pixel screen on the outside. The embedded flash memory has been doubled to 128 MB. A microSD slot can expand capacity to 16 GB. Altogether, the device measures 3.9 x 1.9 x 0.7 inches when closed, and weighs 3.6 ounces.

Other features include Bluetooth 2.0 support, built in 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, a 2 megapixel camera, and a browser with RTSP support to allow for streaming video.

T-Mobile will be the exclusive carrier of the handset in the United States, and it will be available this fall for an unspecified price.
