Samsung Builds MultiStandard Mobile TV Chip

 

Samsung Electronics has said that it is testing a multi-standard mobile TV tuner chipset that supports the multiple digital mobile TV standards around the world.

 

 

Samsung Electronics has said that it is testing a multi-standard mobile TV tuner chipset that supports the multiple digital mobile TV standards around the world.

Mobile TV is a service that lets mobile users to watch television on the move or on their cell phones. Samsung's new tuner chipset will let users to watch mobile TV in Asia, Europe and other parts of the world on the same device.

Since different countries use different standards, until now manufacturers had the problem of making specific devices for each standard.

With the new multi-standard chipset, users will be able to watch TV broadcasts on their hand phones even while traveling abroad.

Samsung has been developing its mobile broadcasting technology, including the development of a European Mobile Broadcasting (DVB-H) decoder in 2005.

According to market researcher Strategic Analytics, the mobile TV market is expected to grow at a compounded annual rate of 67 per cent, from 12 million units in 2007 to 130 million units by 2011.
